Raised in Madrid and educated in London, Coppel Design‘s Angie Socias Coppel seamlessly integrates the rich sensuality of her European heritage with the indoor-outdoor ethos of L.A., her adopted city, to create warm minimalist interiors. “Our philosophy centers on creating timeless, emotionally resonant environments that are both refined and livable, drawing inspiration from European traditions, contemporary art and the beauty of the landscape,” she stresses.

She brought that philosophy to bear in her work on this home in Trousdale Estates that she created in collaboration with Tag Front Architects for a client with a passion for wellness, nature and art that reflected the client’s Brazilian roots. Blending serenity, mindfulness and quiet luxury, the home was conceived as a deeply personal retreat that would serve to translate the client’s rich inner world into a compelling and calming physical space.

“We were brought on as soon as the client purchased the property,” Coppel remembers. “Our goal was to bring warmth, personality and functionality to the interiors.” The client envisioned a restorative sanctuary intimately connected to nature. “Creating a seamless indoor-outdoor experience was essential,” she explains. Landscaping played a central role in the overall design with earth tones, natural materials and organic textures that helped bring that vision to life. “The goal was to craft a timeless and grounded environment where simplicity, balance, and beauty coexisted effortlessly.”

“While the architecture was very open and flowing, the client was interested in treating each area as its own distinct space,” Coppel notes. “Our challenge was to define and elevate each zone through materials, furnishings, and lighting without compromising the home’s overall flow.”

The most significant feature of the home is its emotional atmosphere. “It has a quiet, grounded elegance that you feel immediately on entering,” Coppel says. That’s achieved through a thoughtful, layered palette of earth tones and natural, tactile materials that exude warmth and depth. Custom furnishings and a curated art collection, with a strong emphasis on Brazilian works were chosen to enhance the home’s sense of timelessness and calm.

“The client was truly emotional when she first saw it,” Coppel shares. “She travels extensively, so it was especially important for her to return to a place that felt peaceful, grounding, and uniquely hers. She described the house as feeling like a place where she instantly felt calm and present. The seamless indoor-outdoor flow, the restrained palette, and the natural materials all contributed to the sense of serenity she felt.”
