A Slice of Sausalito
Jeffery Neve Design Studio brings a dream to life for a family of six

“I’m drawn to spaces that feel effortless—where form and function meet with a sense of calm. My approach blends modern restraint with natural warmth, layering organic textures and thoughtful details to create homes that feel deeply personal. Every project begins with how my clients want to live, the flow, the light, the mood and then I build the design around that rhythm,” says Bay Area designer Jeffrey Neve. He and his team leaned on their approach to develop a soft and subtle vernacular inside this new build for clients who always dreamt of living in Sausalito. “They purchased the lot for its sweeping Bay views and designed the home from the ground up to reflect their lifestyle and love of the outdoors,” he notes.

The clients’ main goal was to make the 4,200-square-foot home feel like a serene escape with a minimalist approach that was durable enough for their four kids and two black labs. they wanted open gathering areas that still offered privacy and calm—a home that could handle real life without sacrificing beauty. The main level houses the primary bedroom, sitting room, great room, and kitchen, all connected for an easy, everyday rhythm. The lower level serves as the kids’ floor, with four bedrooms, two baths, and a media room that opens directly to the pool and outdoor living area. With two kids in college and two in middle and high school, the layout gives everyone their own space while keeping the family connected.

Neve absorbed the homeowners’s requests and studied how they live daily and what inspires them in order to guide the detailed decisions. “For this project, the vision was all about restraint,” he recalls. “It pushed me in a new direction: to express warmth and beauty without relying on color or pattern. Instead, I focused on texture and materiality—travertine, marble, Zellige tile, warm wood tones, and Moroccan rugs—to bring depth and character to each room.” They worked with an intentionally neutral palette and layered in a mix of the clients’ existing art and vintage pieces to enhance personality.

Designing a home for an active family of six of course has its challenges. “We had to devise a flow and functionality while maintaining clean lines and a sense of calm,” Neve says. “Every zone needed a purpose—quiet corners for retreat, wide paths for movement, and discreet storage to preserve the minimalist aesthetic. We also designed with their extensive art collection and vintage furniture pieces in mind, ensuring each piece had space to breathe within the architecture.”

While each corner is shear perfection, one of the main standout features is the wellness-focused rooftop that encompasses a yoga deck overlooking the Bay. Not to mention the backyard entertainment area that has a pool, cold plunge, hot tub, sauna and outdoor shower. “Each space captures the essence of this intentionally designed home: a private sanctuary that reflects the family’s balance of discipline and ease,” he says.

When ask how the clients feel about their new residence, Neve proclaims, “They describe the home as everything they had hoped for—and, for them, a true retreat. With its open connection to the outdoors, expansive Bay and city views, and the ability to slide open the great room doors to the balcony above or pool terrace below, the home feels like a private escape on the Italian coast—calm, sunlit, and restorative. It’s a design that feels rare for Sausalito, and one that perfectly reflects their love of beauty, balance, and ease.”
